"The Packers jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but the Cowboys battled back and took a 17-14 advantage on a 50-yard halfback option pass from Dan Reeves to Lance Rentzel on the first play of the fourth quarter.

That led to the dramatic conclusion in which Packers quarterback Bart Starr guided his team on a 68-yard touchdown drive that gave the Packers their third straight NFL title. One of the heroes for the Packers was Chuck Mercein, a fullback who had been cut at midseason by the New York Giants. He accounted for 34 yards on the drive, including 19 on a pass from Starr that moved the ball to the Dallas 11. He then ran for 8 yards to the 3, four plays before the winning score..."
